The weather this austral summer in McMurdo was quite interesting. There was little consistency in the early months of summer, with many a scattered storm making its way through town very frequently. Luckily, however, we had some wonderful sunny and calm warm days. The temperature on one of those days even reached above freezing, peaking at a whopping 34ºF with NO wind whatsoever. Days like that are perfect for an evening hike, especially a quick dash to the summit of Observation Hill right next to station (you can read more about “Ob” Hill in this earlier post). It’s hard to beat the view from the top on a sunny day! Pretty amazing! Because the visibility is so great on warm sunny days, I decided to put together a video with a quick “tour” of the McMurdo Sound area from the summit. Hope you enjoy it!
